Why should you use cuticle oil?

If you’ve ever been a client of mine, you will know that I swear by cuticle oil. After finishing a set of nails, I will always ask my client what scented oil they want applied (Cherry & Vanilla is my personal fave!). While it smells lovely and means that you get to keep that ‘fresh out of the salon’ smell for a while, cuticle oil has incredible benefits not only for your cuticles but also for your overall nail health.

If you start applying some every day, you will quickly notice a huge difference in how your nails look and feel (and if you have it on, it helps your gel polish/builder gel stay on for longer!). Here are 5 benefits of consistently using cuticle oil.

Hydrating and Nourishing

Your cuticles play a vital role in protecting the nail bed from infection and damage. They can, however, become dry and brittle for many reasons: if you wash your hands a lot (or do the dishes without gloves on), if the weather is cold, if you use a lot of hand sanitiser, etc.

And this is where cuticle oil comes in. It acts as a natural moisturiser and penetrates deep into the cuticle and nail bed, providing hydration and nourishment to the area. This helps prevent dryness, flaking and cracking, meaning your cuticles will be healthier and more flexible.

Strengthening

Regular use of cuticle oil not only benefits your cuticles, it also strengthens your nails. The many nourishing ingredients present in cuticle oil are known to improve nail flexibility, which in turn reduces the likelihood of breakage and brittleness. Incorporating cuticle oil into your daily routine can also significantly improve the durability of your gel nails and keep them intact for longer (so it’s a win-win, really)!

Promoting Growth

Many of us love to have long and beautiful nails, but achieving (and maintaining) this growth can be a challenge. Cuticle oil can be a game changer for your nail growth. Because it helps keep your cuticles and nail bed in the best condition, it supports faster nail growth and also keeps your nails strong enough to keep the length without breaking. And bonus points if you massage the oil into your cuticles! It improves blood circulation which further encourages nail growth. Let’s get massaging!

Aiding in Cuticle Maintenance

If you’ve ever gotten your nails done, you know that your cuticles get pushed back and trimmed. Well, using cuticle oil can help with this too. Is there anything cuticle oil can’t do?! As we saw earlier, cuticle oil makes your cuticles softer and more flexible (take a shot every time I say ‘cuticle’!), meaning they’re easier to push back and help achieve a flawless finish on your set of nails. Your nail art will look even better on a neat canvas!

Relaxation and Pampering

Getting your nails done is more than just a beauty treatment for many of us; it's a chance to relax and be pampered. I’m all about creating the best experience for my clients. So, by using cuticle oil (and a nourishing hand cream by Eve Taylor, if my client desires) at the end of my treatments, I hope that the gentle massage during the application leaves them feeling rejuvenated and cared for.

Conclusion

There we have it, 5 reasons why you should make cuticle oil an essential part of your nail care routine. So, unlock the secrets to beautiful nails with the magic of cuticle oil and elevate your nail game!
